![]() The aftertouch is also a bit too on/off for my liking.Īgain, i can't compare with the NI keyboard, and i've had this experience with all other halfweighted synth keybeds i have tried. I like the stiffness of the Akai as i'm used to pianos, but they're easy to overshoot the 127 midi value of the dynamics. I like them a lot more for percussion than using keys. The drumpads are quite good, a lot better than the gen1's. ![]() I have an Akai MPK249, i do like having faders and assigneable buttons as well as rotary controllers. Takes a bit of time, but in the end gets you a much quicker workflow. I tend to map controllers myself in the way i find logical and useful. The parameters you need are often on different pages, and loads of unimportant/unnecessary stuff in between them. Other options for VIP include the M-Audio CTRL49 and Alesis VX49, and though I have not demoed their keys action or control feel, I can tell you that I'm not a big fan of the keys on the M-Audio Code or Alesis VI49.įirst off, i've no hands-on experience with the NI KK.ĭoes the software actually work with a variety of plugins? I've never found these premade controller layouts for plugs handy. Not the best I've ever laid hands on but probably one of the better as far as dedicated controllers (on par with the Novation Remote series IMO). The NI (mkI) was quite a bit better than the Akai. I have never owned any of the keyboards, but I did demo their respective key actions in my local banjo mart. It includes plugin maps (controller assignments and presets) for NI's plugins as well as a bunch of others: AKAI Professional - VIP - Everything you need to know about Plugin Maps I got it for free as a previous (but still registered) owner of an M-Audio Code. I recently installed a copy of VIP 3.0 and I like it quite a bit for browsing, layering, and simple tweaking. If you're looking to unify your plugin library and make it feel more like a workstation, then I'd go with one of the VIP boards. My take is if you're a player, then the NI is the clear choice.
